Today is my birthday … my spiritual birthday. 69 years ago, as a young boy sitting on the right side of Maple View Baptist church my friend, Miles Howell was pestering me about going forward during the invitation. Miles knew that I wanted to accept Jesus as my Savior, but I was afraid to publicly make the decision. Pastor Gwen Blackburn saw what was going on and stepped back to speak with me. He sat down beside me and offered me a gift. He said, “Here is a quarter for you. Here take it.” And I did. As I looked at the quarter, he went on, “You didn’t have to work for that quarter, it was a gift. You did nothing to deserve it, it was given to you. You only had to accept it from me. The same is true of salvation. It is a gift from God. Jesus paid for your salvation on the cross of Calvary and offers you the free gift of salvation.” April 17, 1956, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, and I have never regretted that decision! Hey, have you accepted God’s free gift of salvation? Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Jesus is the only way to heaven. Have you accepted Him?
