Read Psalms 23:4  This psalm is called the Shepherd psalm because it talks about the shepherd and the sheep.  This is another good word picture.   When we read about the Lord as our shepherd we know that He will take care of us just like the shepherd takes care of his sheep.  Sheep do not have big teeth or long, sharp claws to defend themselves.  They are helpless kind of like a little child.  They need a strong and wise shepherd to take care of them.  We need Jesus, our strong and wise Savior to take care of us!  This verse says that even though we are faced with fearful things, we do not need to be afraid, because the Lord is with us.  When you wake up in the middle of the night to the thunder of a storm, you run into mommy and daddy's room.  Even though it is dark, with your parent's arms around you you are not afraid.  Remember to never be afraid in life because the Lord Jesus Christ is with you!  What are the two things at the end of the verse that the Lord uses to comfort us?  The shepherd uses his rod and staff to gently push the sheep into the right direction.  It is good to know that the Lord is pushing us in the right direction!
