Leviticus 25:23 The
land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and
sojourners with me. God had a fantastic plan to reset Israel’s economy
every fifty years. Every seven years was a Sabbath year. And then every seven
sevens – 49 years – was a year of jubilee. On this year of jubilee, every
parcel of land that had been bought went back to the original owner. And every
debtor who had been sold into slavery went free. God was protecting the poor
from disaster and God was reminding the rich that they were only leasing land
and hiring slaves until the year of jubilee. And God was reminding everyone
that Israel had once been slaves in Egypt. God wanted everyone to remember. God
cares for everyone - even those who are bad businessmen. On the year of jubilee
they got one more chance to make it right. God is always fair. He cares for
everyone – even you!
