II Kings 4:1

II Kings 4:1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. In Bible times, there was no Social Security or Disability payments. So when the prophet died suddenly, his widow and sons were left with no means of support. They were at risk of starving or becoming slaves. So the widow cried out to Elisha. Elisha asked what she had in the house. She said, “I have nothing except a little bottle of cooking oil. Not another thing.” So Elisha told her to go borrow a bunch of containers. He said, “Don’t borrow a few, borrow as many as you can!” And she did. Then Elisha told her to begin to pour out the oil into the containers. And a miracle occurred! She poured out of the little bottle into a big pot. She poured and poured and poured. She filled up the big pot! Then her boys brought in another and another until all of the pots that she had borrowed were full! And the oil in the little pot stopped! Then Elisha said, “Now go to the market and sell the oil and pay your bills and live on the rest of the money that is left over.” And she did! God takes care of his prophets and God will take care of you!
