It has been an interesting day, that started at 1 am! We had snow predicted, so my wife’s dialysis center had the morning shift come in at 1am. My poor wife finished about 3 am, and we were back at home in ten minutes. After a piece of toast, we were back asleep. But I awoke at 8 am to the light and quietness of snowfall outside. Reminded me of 65 years ago. As a student, I always prayed for snow. The quietness was broken about 6 am by the hated sound of the snowplow clearing the road for the equally hated school bus. Drats! And as a former teacher, I still like snow and the potential of a day off. So, this morning, with the snow falling, my birds were all around the three feeders finding breakfast. When it snowed 65 years ago, my mother crumbled up leftover cornbread and dried light bread for the birds. Now I purchase black oil sunflower seed. My birds have no idea how pampered they are. Nowadays, we have fresh dog food in the refrigerator and high-dollar birdseed. I am nostalgic, but the dogs and birds are glad that the old days are behind them. Actually, they don’t even think about the past or the future, they just live for today. Jesus said in Matthew 6:26, “Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” And to answer the rhetorical question posed by Jesus, “Yes, we are much more important than birds or dogs to our Lord!” Thank you, Jesus, for taking care of all of us, man and beast.
