The End of the Bread

For the last month, I have been buying fresh-baked Walmart bread.  It has fewer ingredients, it is fresh, and it is cheap ($1 per loaf).  The downside is that with no preservatives, it begins to mold in five days.  So, I eat it in five days, or I pitch it in five days.  And this morning, the fresh-baked loaf of bread on my counter reminded me of the fresh-baked bread that we ate in Romania.  Brother Florin would cut off the end of the loaf and say that it was his favorite part to eat.  But after years of eating bread at his generous table, I think Brother Florin was just taking the worst and leaving the best for me.  My Granny Epperly was the same.  She said that she preferred the neck meat of the chicken.  But the neck has almost no meat on it.  She was leaving the choice parts for her family.  Paul said in Philippians 2:3, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”  And the Lord Jesus was the prime example of self-lessness.  May we put others ahead of ourselves today, is my prayer.
