Our kids are learning more social studies and less history. And that’s not a good thing. History is important. It keeps us from making the same mistakes over again. But dwelling on past mistakes can be a waste of time as well. Question: can you do anything about the past? The answer is no. It is as if history were written in stone - it cannot be changed. Dwelling on the past is like trying to drive looking only in the rear-view mirror. It’s good to glance back to see where we’ve been, but we must focus on where we are going; we should look to the future. Paul said it best in Philippians 3:13&14, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Hey, learn from the past but look to the future. If you are a Christian, your future is as bright as heaven. If you are not a Christian, your future is … well … it is … just become a Christian.
