Goodwill Hunting

My wife likes to hunt for serving glass pieces at thrift stores.  Some people hunt for deer and turkey, but my wife hunts for serving glass pieces.  Her items are much easier to clean than deer and turkey.  We went by the Goodwill re-store on East Brainerd Road two weeks ago Saturday.  But when we arrived, I was stunned by the steady flow of folk bringing items TO the store!  Then I realized that people were bringing their old items to drop off to make room for the new Christmas stuff that they had just gotten.  Reminded me of the parable of the Rich Fool told by Jesus.  Like the Goodwill donations, this fellow had too much stuff.  Luke 12:18, “And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.”  I’m not against Christmas gift-giving, and I’m not against having stuff.  Hey, I have stuff in my basement!  But we must realize that we will leave all of our stuff behind when we pass on into eternity.  Jesus said in Matthew 6:20&21, “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
