Tuesday afternoon, I unscrewed the lid on my A&W root beer bottle (zero calorie, mind you) but fumbled it and it fell to the kitchen floor. I followed the trajectory with my eyes unable to catch it before it hit the floor. I was hoping it would land upside down so the side that touched the bottle would not land on the floor. Unfortunately, it landed the wrong way. But I was saved: my friend Marleen had cleaned my floor Monday, and I had left Monday afternoon to go to Knoxville to speak in chapel on Tuesday. I got back that afternoon, warmed up supper, and dropped the cap … onto a clean floor. What a blessing! Hey, it’s one thing to have a clean floor, but it’s quite another thing to have a clean heart. Fabuloso works on floors, but only the precious blood of Jesus Christ will work on sins. David said in Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
