We have had a water leak underground at church. It has been hard to locate because it is under the asphalt parking lot. It began three months ago with a wet patch at one of the seams that persisted well after the rains had ended. Then another patch; then another wet place bigger than the first. We had a leak in the 1” water line that was repaired about 8 years ago, and here was another one! I broke through the asphalt and dug down 18” to find the leak, but the soil was dry. I didn’t even find the water pipe. So, I moved several feet downhill and dug another hole. Dampness, but still no water leak. Joey V. a plumber friend, came over and located the water pipe in my second hole 3 feet underground! We dug, following the pipe (he dug and I watched), until we found the leak. A tiny little hole, but big enough to cause hundreds of dollars in lost water per month. Joey repaired the leak (while I supervised), but there was still some water loss somewhere from the meter to the church. For now (in cold weather) we’ll have to live with a small leak. That tiny hole caused us a lot of expense. And a little sin causes a person much grief, as well. Paul uses the analogy of leaven as a picture of sin in our lives. Galatians 5:9, “A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” Just like a small hole cost the church a lot of money, a little sin will cost you a relationship with the Lord. Hey, come clean with God and get forgiveness. You’ll be glad that you did.
