Romans 13:1-3

Romans 13:1-3 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: Sometimes government is good and sometimes it is not. But we should always obey the authorities over us. God has given us governments so that we can live peaceable lives. But if the authorities go against what the Bible says, we ought to obey God rather than the ungodly rulers. In America, if the government passes laws that are against Godly principles, we should work to have them changed. That is our responsibility as Americans. But we should not just disobey laws that we disagree with. That is what our verses are talking about. But we should always obey God rather than men. God is our ultimate authority. Someday we will have to answer to Him.
