Philippians 2:3

Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Proverbs 13:10 says, only by pride cometh contention. What is the opposite of pride? The opposite of pride is humility. Our verse doesn’t use the word, humility, but it does say that we should think of others better than ourselves and we should think in lowliness of mind. That describes humility perfectly. The only time we get into an argument is when we think of ourselves better than the other person. We are more important than they are. We should be treated better than they are treating us because we are better than they are. Now that sounds more like pride than the lowliness of mind that our verse talks about. Our verse says that we should hold other people up above ourselves. We should even think of them better than we think of ourselves. We will find out tomorrow that that is exactly what Jesus did. Even though Jesus was God’s only Son, He came down to us so that He could serve us! Wow! Think of that! The God who created us was willing to serve us! That is true love! That is real humility!
