Joshua 11:23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war. This is a great verse. It uses the word rested. That is such a great word! It carries a peaceful feeling. I like to work hard and then come home and take a hot shower and then sit on the couch in the living room and _________ . You got it, rest. Joshua and the Israelites worked hard in battle. They made peace with no one except the Gibeonites, who tricked them. They utterly destroyed all of the wicked Canaanites from out of the land. But when they were finished, they divided up the land among the twelve tribes and then the land had _________ .You got it, rest. God wants to give us rest, but first we have to work. Then we will have rest.
