I went over to my great-niece’s home Monday for a Memorial Day cookout and was bragging about my biscuits. She had given me some advice that I had used, so I thought that it was appropriate to bring up the topic myself. Bad idea. Because the next morning, I ate my words, but not my biscuits (see the picture below). It seems that I left out an ingredient when I baked the biscuits … the Crisco. And every ingredient in a recipe is necessary. Often a cook can substitute one ingredient for another, but to leave an ingredient out completely is usually fatal … like it was Tuesday morning. Hey, how often in life do I forget an important detail? I may notice that I am leaving out something important, but I just don’t think that the omission will matter. Or I might say, “I’ll take care of this detail later,” but days run into weeks, weeks run into years and years run into a lifetime. My best plan is to think first thing in the morning, “What do I absolutely need to get done today?” and then make sure that I do it. Psalm 90:12, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
