Sunday morning, I got up and made my coffee and four biscuits (refer to my post last Sunday). I sat down on Kathy’s recliner and watched the news enjoying a biscuit with cherry preserves. After I finished, (the biscuit, not the news, which never ends) I put my cup and plate in the sink and went to the bathroom. After I brushed my teeth, I felt my slipper stick to the floor. Then I noticed two spots on the bathroom floor. I took off my slippers, inspected the bottom, and found some sticky cherry jam on my slipper. But now I felt the sticky preserves on the heel of my bare foot. I had tracked the jam into the bathroom from somewhere. I washed off my heel and the slipper and the floor of the bathroom and carefully retraced my steps back to the recliner where I found a smashed piece of biscuit and jam on the floor in front of the recliner – the source of my problem. I followed sticky steps into the kitchen, in front of the sink, in front of the trash can and … well, who knows where. I got a Swifter wet-mop from the basement and began mopping. I had to mop the entire kitchen, living room, hallway, and bathroom because I had been in all of those rooms and I couldn’t SEE sticky, I could only FEEL sticky. All because of one jelly crumb dropped in front of the recliner. How often does a little sin reach out and infect so many areas of my life and harm everyone that I come into contact with?! A bad attitude can cause others to snap back at me and leave crankiness everywhere I go! Proverbs 17:22, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Take the medicine of a merry heart before crankiness infects others … and have a good day.
