John 3:4-6

John 3:4-6 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Yesterday, Jesus told Nicodemus that he had to be born again. Nicodemus was a smart man, but this new birth stuff was new to him. Nicodemus and the other Jewish leaders were used to following many laws and rules and working hard to obey them. But Jesus was teaching that the new way to God was a relationship, not rules. To have a new relationship with God was like being born again. Born of water was the physical birth into your earthly family, but being born of the spirit was the spiritual part of being born into God’s forever family. Being born again is what we call salvation in Jesus. When Jesus explained spiritual things to Nicodemus, we are able to learn new things too. Jesus is the one to learn from. After all, He knows the way to heaven.
