John 4:35

John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. When Jesus spoke to the woman of Samaria at the well, she was excited to hear of His living water that He talked about. But when she realized that Jesus was promising her eternal living water, she really got excited! She was so excited that she ran back into town to tell everyone about the good news of salvation that Jesus was telling about. When she ran into the city, she forgot her water pot – she just left it beside the well in all her excitement. As Jesus looked over the valley towards the city, He saw all of those white turbaned people coming out of the city to talk to Him about this eternal living water. It was too early for harvest time, but He told his disciples that the fields were ripe unto harvest a full four months early. That is because He wasn’t talking about the harvest of grain or grapes; He was talking about the harvest of souls. The harvest that Jesus was talking about was the people coming out to hear the good news of salvation that He had to offer to them. Just like Jesus, we need to be interested in the souls of people. And just like the excited woman of Samaria, we need to invite our friends to hear about Jesus and His gift of eternal living water – His gift of life!
