Acts 12:1-5

Acts 12:1-5 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people. Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. These were difficult times for Christians in Jerusalem. The Jewish religious leaders were jealous of them and tattled to the king about them. And since the King Herod wanted the people to like him, he tried to please the people when he could. Some of God’s followers were rescued like Saul and the basket in Damascus while some of them became martyrs like James. Does that mean that God cared about Saul more than He cared about James? No God loves each of us. But God has a plan for each of us as well. God was finished with James, but He was not finished with Saul. We each have a life to live for God. And when He is finished, He will take us home to be with Him. But until then, we must be busy doing God’s work. And Christians were praying for Peter. I wonder what God will do with Peter. Will he be rescued like Saul or go home to heaven like James? We’ll find out tomorrow.
