Haggai 1:3-5

Haggai 1:3-5 Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Haggai wrote his prophecy from Jerusalem about eighteen years after the children of Israel returned from the Babylonian captivity. In chapter two, there is indication that Haggai had seen the destruction of Solomon’s beautiful Temple. As the people returned to Jerusalem, they rebuilt the walls of the city. They cleared out the rubble and rebuilt houses and began to get back to normal. But as Haggai watched, the Temple still lay in ruins. Everyone’s house was rebuilt, but God’s house was not rebuilt. The people were thinking of themselves, but had left God out. They thought of their physical return, but they forgot about their spiritual neglect. They had nicely furnished houses but God had nothing. They had neglected to rebuild God’s house. So Haggai, God’s prophet said, “Hey! Stop and think about your spiritual condition! You have neglected to rebuild God’s house! Think about it!” A good reminder for us. every once in a while we need to stop and think and take inventory. Where are we, and where are we spiritually?
