John 14:13,14

John 14:13,14 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. Is Jesus saying that we can ask for anything and He will give it to us? How about a new car? Why can’t we just ask for a new car and Jesus will give it to us? Well the key is found in verse 14. If we ask in Jesus’ name He will give it to us. So is asking in Jesus’ name the secret code to getting anything that we want? What does asking in Jesus’ name mean? When we pray we are talking to God. Just think about that. We are able to talk to the Creator of the Universe!  And when we do, we will come to God in reverence. We will respect Him. We won’t just ask for selfish stuff – we will ask for things that He would want us to have – things that would make His kingdom on earth to grow. So asking in Jesus’ name is asking for things that Jesus would want if He were here. Do you think that Jesus would like the church to have a van to get boys and girls to church? Do you think Jesus would like you to have an X Box 360 to waste your time with? Which of these two prayer requests do you think Jesus would like to answer? Which of these two prayer requests could you pray for in Jesus’ name? Let’s try to think like Jesus would and then we can pray like Jesus would pray. When we do, He will answer our prayers!
