Ephesians 5:21

Ephesians 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. It is always hard to let someone else be in charge. It is hard to obey someone else. But God has put people above us who are in charge of us. Name some of the people who are in charge of you? Parents; teachers; policemen; pastors; babysitters. There are many people who are in charge of us. Our verse tells us that we should listen to them because God put them there. And we certainly should listen to God . . . Right? In the military, there is something called the chain of command. The buck private has to obey the sergeant, and the sergeant has to obey the lieutenant. And the lieutenant has to obey the captain, who has to obey the major, who has to obey the general. In order for the army to run smoothly, everyone must obey the person above them who is in charge of them. So when someone in authority tells us something to do, we should obey them just as in the military chain of command. When someone in authority tells us something to do, they have orders to obey them too. God is above them and directing them. We just have to trust that they are obeying God as He speaks to them in His Word and orders them. So we must obey authority as if God Himself were here telling us something to do. Obey authority just as they must obey God.
