Ephesians 6:1-3

Ephesians 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Uh, oh! Now we are really in trouble! We have talked about husbands and we have talked about wives, but really! Do we have to talk about children?! But we must, so here we go: children are given two commands. Do you remember what they are? The first is to obey and the second is to honor. To obey is what you do, but to honor is the heart attitude and how you go about obeying. To honor is to give respect to. Actually, you can obey someone and not honor them. Honor is more than obeying. Honor means to obey with the right attitude. But in our verses, God says that if we obey and honor our parents, He will give us a long life. So does this mean that everyone who obeys and honors their parents will live to be an old, old grandpa or grandma? Well, maybe not. But however long that God plans to give you for your life, if you obey and honor your parents, God will give you longer than He planned. The main thing to remember is that God will bless you if you obey and honor your parents. And that is a promise from Almighty God.
