A Carpenter Giving a Fisherman Advice

Kathy was in the hospital a month ago for a wound on her stomach that just wouldn’t heal.  After extensive surgery, she came back to the hospital room with a wound vac attached.  It is basically a suction machine covering the entire wound which stimulates new blood flow to the area to promote healing.  An interesting concept.  The whole area was sealed with tape where the wound vac was attached, but it was leaking air.  The first night the wound vac made such a loud noise that Kathy couldn’t sleep.  The nurse added more tape all over to try to seal the leak, but it didn’t help.  Of course, I have a mechanical mind and think like a plumber.  I tactfully suggested taping under the hose where it connected to the bandages, but what did I know?  I was just the patient’s husband.  But I know tubing and leaky pipes and how to fix them.  The next morning, I caught the ear of the day-shift nurse and he re-taped the unit at the base where it connected to the bandage, and it sealed fine.  The wound vac quieted and began to function.  Hey, I was reminded of Peter, the fisherman in Luke 5.  Peter was cleaning his nets after fishing all night when Jesus asked to use his boat as a pulpit to preach to the crowds on the shore.  When Jesus ended His sermon around noon, He told Peter to launch out into the deep for a catch of fish.  But Peter was incredulous!  He had fished all night and knew better than to fish in the heat of the day.  But here was this carpenter from Nazareth telling him, a commercial fisherman, how to do his business.  But Peter was polite and said in Luke 5:5, “… Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”  Peter reluctantly obeyed Jesus … and caught more fish than his boat could hold!  Peter had to get help from James and John, his fishing buddies!  That’s when Peter realized that Jesus was no ordinary man.  Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah of Israel!  Hey, do you realize who Jesus is?  Is Jesus just a good teacher to you?  Is He just someone to give you good advice?  Or is Jesus your Savior to rescue you from your sins?  Jesus knows what He is talking about.  Listen to Him.  Let Him redeem your soul and change your life.  You’ll be glad that you did.
