Yield to God

In 2005 we took a mission trip to Metz, France to help at the Institut Pastoral Biblique Baptiste.  One afternoon we visited Paris for sightseeing.  At the end of the Champs-Élysées around the Arc de Triomphe is a tremendous roundabout with twelve lanes of traffic.  I understood the traffic rules but couldn’t summon the courage to confront the French drivers.  It took me four times around the circle just to get off on the right road.  Drivers IN the roundabout have the right of way.  Drivers coming INTO the roundabout must yield to those already IN the roundabout.  Again, I knew the concept … but I had to appropriate that knowledge.  Hey, we intellectually know that we should yield to the control of the Holy Spirit in our lives, but it is difficult to just do it!  Paul commanded us in Romans 6:13, “Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”  We must not yield to the flesh but yield to God.  Don’t overthink it.  Just do it.  Yield to God.
