I Thessalonians 4:11

I Thessalonians 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you. Have you noticed that it is hard to obey? There is something inside of us that just wants to do the opposite of what we are told to do. That is our sin nature. And even Christians have that sin nature. We want to do the right thing, but our sin nature just wants us to do the wrong thing. It is a constant battle. Our verse says it well: we have to study to be quiet; we have to work at it. When you have to take a test in school, you must prepare. You must think about the questions that are coming up and study to get ready. And that is exactly what we must do to to overcome our sin nature. We must realize that we have rebellion inside of us and we must work at overcoming our rebellious attitude. Hey, it’s hard work! Spouting off a smart word is always easier than holding your tongue. So as Paul says, “study to be quiet”. Work at it!
