Undertaker

I have good neighbors around me.  Well, except for the three neighbors who have barking dogs, but they’re still good people.  But that’s for another day.  We have one neighbor across the street who is a mortician.  He is an otherwise nice man, but my wife says that he gives her chills when he waves to us from his mailbox.  She says, “It is as if he is sizing us up for a casket.”  But actually, death IS stalking each one of us every day.  We are only a heartbeat away from meeting the undertaker.  Not a very pleasant thought, is it?  The writer of the book of Hebrews said in Hebrews 9:27, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”  But if you have made your peace with your Maker, you have nothing to fear from death.  If you haven’t made peace with God, it is only natural to fear death.  For the Christian, death means heaven, but for the unbeliever death means a final separation from God.  I remember reading of an undertaker who didn’t close his letters with “Sincerely yours”, he closed his letters with, “Eventually yours”.  Think about it and prepare for that day.
