John 10:9-11

John 10:9-11 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Jesus gave us many word pictures to help us understand spiritual truths. Here is another one. Here Jesus calls Himself the Good Shepherd and we are His sheep. This is like the 23rd Psalm. Sheep are simple creatures. They need help. They need supervision. They need a shepherd to take care of them. And just like sheep need help, we need help from the Lord. We need His direction. Sheep also need help because they are defenseless. They do not have sharp teeth like a wolf; they do not have sharp hooves like a deer; they do not have sharp horns like a deer. Sheep cannot run fast to escape from danger; sheep are not camouflaged to hide from an attacker; sheep cannot even swim. Sheep are helpless. They need a shepherd. And just like defenseless sheep, we need a Shepherd to protect us. God has given us a wonderful picture here in John 10! Isn’t it wonderful to know that Jesus Christ is our Good Shepherd?
