John 5:17-19

John 5:17-19 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. The Jewish leaders just didn’t get it. They didn’t understand that Jesus was the Messiah and therefore the Son of God. They didn’t understand that Jesus existed before all of them. And finally, they just didn’t get it that Jesus was equal with God the Father. Jesus reminded them in our verses that He did only those things that He saw the Father do. The Jewish leaders were mad at Him for two reasons: first, He had broken the Sabbath day rule and second, he made Himself equal to God. But they just didn’t get it that Jesus was God and that He had power over the Sabbath day. If we realize Who Jesus is, it is easy to accept His power and authority. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior? I have! And I hope you have too!
