The View from Ten Thousand Feet

When we travel to Romania, we usually fly into Europe and rent a car and drive the rest of the way.  We get over jet lag and we have our own vehicle to get around in while in Romania.  Usually we fly into Munich, but occasionally we have flown into Budapest or Frankfurt.  Often, to get the best price, we will travel through another city.  Stopovers include Paris, Vienna, London, and Amsterdam.  One of the most beautiful sights in thirty years of traveling was Amsterdam in the spring.  From high overhead, the tulip fields are a gorgeous network resembling a patchwork quilt.  But down on the ground, the view is not as gorgeous - it’s quite different.  Underneath the beautiful tulip blooms is nasty dirt.  Clods of manure and mulch are underneath the beautiful blooms.  Mud will cake your shoes (The old-timers wore wooden shoes and left them at the door).  From ten thousand feet, the view is beautiful, but up close, the view is different.  Hey, that’s the way it is with my life.  Your view from facebook is from a distance.  Everything that I write about is perfect.  You love it.  But up close, I have problems just like you do.  My house gets dirty just like your house and needs cleaning.  I have weeds in my yard; my car has grime on it; my garbage needs taken out; I have a pile of dirty laundry in the corner.  My life is made up of boring details just like your life.  But I don’t write about my boredom; I write about exciting things.  Hey, do you envy my life?  Well, don’t envy it!  My life is just like yours.  Hey, the dear Lord made each one of us!  We are individuals made exactly the way that God wanted us to be.  David said in Psalm 139:14, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”  Just like the tulip fields, you were made by your loving heavenly Father.  And just like the tulip fields, you have hidden problems.  Don’t fret about your problems; just grow the way that God wants you to grow.  Be beautiful, be productive … for Him!
