Carded

We were eating out Sunday afternoon, and I stopped by Food City to get my daughter-in-law a birthday cake with candles and a lighter.  The cashier asked me my birthdate.  I was puzzled but thought he was going to give me a discount on the cake because he thought that it was my birthday.  But I was sure that he wouldn’t give me a discount because my birthday in October and it was now the middle of December.  He noticed my puzzled look and said, “Oh, we have to verify that customers buying lighters are over 18.”  But I was still puzzled - I have completely white hair, a full white mustache, and a full white beard.  He went on, “Sorry, we have to check everyone.”  I replied, “Oh, I don’t mind. It’s been years since I’ve been carded and it makes me feel young again!”  We both smiled.  Proverbs 17:22, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”
