Still, Quiet Voice

I have ringing in my ears (tinnitus) so I sleep with white noise in the background.  The little box has a waterfall, a seashore, a thunderstorm, or a babbling brook that loops.  I prefer the babbling brook.  But one day last week, I was so tired that I went to sleep in the recliner.  I woke up three hours later (the TV had even turned off).  I wanted to get up and go to bed, but I was just too tired to move, so I just sat there.  And then I heard a strange noise: it was the steady, rhythmic beating of the wall clock.  I had never heard it before because of the louder noises in the living room.  But when everything was super quiet, I could hear the clock ticking.  Hey, the dear Lord speaks in a still small voice.  We don’t usually hear Him because the louder noises in our world drown out God’s still, small voice.  Work is calling, family responsibilities are calling, football games are calling.  TV, DVD’s, and leisure music are all calling.  But if we listen carefully ask the Lord, He will speak … in a quiet voice.  And if we obey the good Lord’s voice, He will speak to us more often.  What a blessing to listen to the voice of our Creator as He speaks to our hearts!  God spoke to Elijah in I Kings 19:11-13, “And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle …”  God’s voice to you is quiet, but powerful.  Will you listen?
