Mark 12:13-17

Mark 12:13-17 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words. And when they were come, they say unto him, Master … is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? … But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it. And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's. And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him. Once again the religious leaders were trying to trip up Jesus in His words. They wanted to get Jesus into trouble with the Roman overlords. But Jesus reminded these false teachers that there are two spheres of influence: the physical and the spiritual. We should give the physical world their dues and we should give God and the spiritual world His due. We shouldn’t confuse the two. Give God what is due to Him and give the government what is due to it. Good answer, Jesus!
