I like a challenge. So, I have a gauge on my car’s dashboard that has the mileage range: how far that my car’s computer estimates that I can go before I run out of gas. Because I drive mostly around town it usually reads about 270 miles (to the tank). A couple of times, I ran down to 0 just to see how long my car would continue to run, but it made me nervous – as it should. So, last week, I planned ahead to set a record. My personal best. Here’s how I did it: First, I drove to my daughter’s in Springfield, TN, and was able to log highway miles, which gave me better mileage. Then I filled up at Costco when I came home because the concrete slab sloped downhill and I could get a little more gas into the tank. Next, when the automatic pump clicked off, I waited a minute and then shook my car to get the air bubbles out of the tank. And last, I topped off the tank filling it all the way up the filler tube. And when I started up the car and pulled out of the gas station, the gauge read 306 miles: a new record! At least it was for me. But no matter how much gas I get into the tank, eventually, it will run out. And in life, I can’t depend on my own good works; I must depend upon the good Lord, and His tank never runs out! Psalm 18:30, “As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried …”
