At cardiac rehab, my third machine of the workout is the treadmill. The first thing that I do when I step on the treadmill is to connect the safety pin clip to my belt loop. Have you seen those wacky YouTubes of folk who fall on the treadmill and get shot off the back of the belt?! Makes me laugh, because it isn’t me. But today, I began to think: what would really happen if I pulled out the safety pin? So I did. Bad idea! The treadmill went from 2.5 mph to a dead stop in ½ of a second (2 feet)! And since I was moving forward at 2.5 mph when it stopped, I kept moving forward at 2.5 mph … that is until my body was stopped by the control panel! The second half of the Law of Inertia states that an object in motion tends to stay in motion until acted upon by an unbalanced force. And that’s exactly what my body did! Hey, if you are going in the wrong direction in your life, let me give you some good advice: stop. Just stop and think about where you’re headed. Proverbs 4:26, “Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.” Think about the path that you’re on. Then stop going in the wrong direction and start going in the right direction. And today would be a good day to stop … and to start.
