New Jeans

When I was eight years old, I would hurry home from school to watch the Mickey Mouse Club on our tiny black and white TV.  One segment of the program was the Spin and Marty show: two boys who were at the Triple R Ranch, a summer camp for kids.  In one of their episodes, the boys tried to break in a new pair of jeans for Marty.  I recall the episode because I got two pair of new jeans last Saturday at Tractor Supply (65 years later!).  New jeans are so stiff that they can stand up in the corner by themselves.  Spin knotted up Marty’s new jeans, soaked them in water, and kicked them around in the dirt for thirty minutes.  Then he scrubbed and scrubbed them.  I’m not sure how the episode ended, but I washed my jeans three times over the weekend.  They are still stiff, but just a little softer than when I bought them.  And with each wash & dry, they will get a little better.  And when they finally get soft and broken in, they will get holes in the knees, and I’ll have to throw them away.  That’s just the way it is with jeans, and that’s just the way it is with people.  When I finally get things figured out and gain experience, I grow old and die.  But death is not the end; it’s just the door that opens into eternity.  And with 75 years of experiences and lessons learned, I am just getting ready for my new heavenly life.  Paul said in I Corinthians 15:53&54, “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”  What a wonderful day that will be!  Death will be swallowed up in victory!  I’ll see my dear wife again, with her parents and my parents, and all my friends who have gone on before me.  But I long to my Savior first of all!  Hey, are you ready for that day?
