I must have a touch of ADD because I can’t work on an exercise machine for more than 6 minutes. They just wear me out! So, to get in my 30-minute cardiac workout, I must use 5 machines at 6 minutes each. I warm up with the stationary bicycle and then straight to my nemesis, the rowing machine. But I know a couple of tricks now: If I row a little faster, I can up my watts by 10 units. And if I reach out a little further on the snatch, I can up my watts by 20 units. So, I row moderately for 3 minutes, then up the speed a little, and finally reach a little further for the last minute, substantially increasing the output of my workout. Hey, the apostle Paul must have rowed in a Roman slave ship because he writes in Philippians 3:13&14, “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Hey, reaching out works on a rowing machine and reaching out works in serving the Lord. Don’t settle for being average; reach out to become above average … above average for God!
