II Timothy 3:16,17

II Timothy 3:16,17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. Let me ask a few questions. How much Scripture is inspired by God? That’s right, all of it. What does inspiration mean? Right again, inspiration means “God breathed.” OK, next question: what does profitable mean? Well, profitable can mean to make money on a business deal, but it can also mean that something is worth it for us. Which leads to the next question: is Scripture worth it for us? Right again, Scripture is worth it for us! Scripture is profitable. Scripture is useful to teach us and to correct errors that we might develop. And our final question: what is the overall purpose of Scripture? God gives us Scripture in order to prepare us for the Christian life. The word used here is furnished. Furnished means to take an empty room and fill it up with furniture. Put in chairs and couches and tables and magazines and lamps. Put in everything that you need to make it livable. Hey, that’s exactly what Scripture is for! God wants our lives to be useful. God wants our lives to be filled up with good works so that others will see our lives and say, now that’s a true Christian!
