II Timothy 4:1-3

II Timothy 4:1-3 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears. Some people like to be told the truth, but some people don’t want to be bothered with the truth. That’s because we are all sinners and the truth shows up problems in our lives. So when Christians hear the news that there are problems in their lives, they can make a change. They can ask the Lord for forgiveness and their lives can become better. But unsaved people are different. There are two kinds of unsaved people: Those who have not heard the truth and those who don’t want to hear the truth. Our responsibility is to tell those who have not heard the truth. But Paul tells Timothy that those who don’t want to hear the truth will look for preachers who will just tell them things that they want to hear. These false preachers will tell sweet stories to make their people comfortable. These false teachers will give their people excuses to live worldly lives. So why do ungodly people seek out these false teachers? Because they can’t handle the truth. The truth of God’s Word is powerful. We must listen to God’s Words and obey them. And Paul reminds Timothy – and us – that some love the truth and others hide from the truth. So, which one are you? Do you love the truth? I hope so!
