Daniel 1:8 But
Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion
of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of
the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel was in a
dangerous predicament. Along with his three friends, he had been dragged from
his home to Babylon as a slave. He was told what to eat by none other than King
Nebuchadnezzar himself. But the God of heaven had also told Daniel what to eat
in the Bible. What was Daniel to do? Obey God or obey the king? So Daniel
proposed a test for 10 days. And Melzar, his supervisor agreed. And God blessed
Daniel for his faithfulness. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were
healthier and smarter than all of the other trainees. Daniel honored God and
God honored Daniel. A good lesson for us, right?
