I Samuel 3:9

I Samuel 3:9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. Eli was an old man and would not be priest for very much longer. He had two grown sons, but neither of them was God’s choice to become the next priest. That is because Eli’s sons were wicked men. Eli had tried to control them, but he couldn’t. So God passed over them and chose little Samuel to be the next priest. When God spoke to Samuel one night, Samuel thought it was Eli calling to him, so he jumped up and ran to the Old Man’s side. After this happened three times, Eli realized that the Lord was calling Samuel’s name. Eli said to Samuel, “The next time that you think I’m calling you, just stay put in your bed and say, ‘Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth.’” So Samuel did. And God revealed everything to Samuel. God was with Samuel and Samuel became a great man of God. Samuel listened for God to speak. Do you? When you read something in God’s holy Word that speaks to your heart. do you say, “Speak Lord, for I am listening”? I hope so.
