Finding Your Roots

My wife and I like to watch the PBS program “Finding Your Roots” with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.  The program investigates the ancestry of two or three celebrities and discovers interesting people in their family trees.  Many of the stars get teary-eyed when they learn of the adversities and circumstances that their great great-grandparents had to face in the past.  Hey, what about your past?  Do you know much about your grandparents and great grandparents?  I can only go about three generations before trail grows cold.  The question. “Where am I from?” easily leads to Why am I here? and then, “Where am I going when I die?”  These questions have puzzled mankind since the dawn of time.  We all need a sense of purpose.  So, what is your purpose? The Westminster Catechism says that the chief end of man is to love God and enjoy Him forever.  That says it all!  Hey, you are not just a cosmic accident of evolution; you were made by God to have a relationship with Him.  God loves you and wants to get to know you.  Why not get to know God?!  John the revelator saw a vision of the throne of the Almighty and heard the Redeemed of all ages worshiping God and saying in Revelation 4:11, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”  Hey, God made us!  We are God’s toys that He enjoys!  Make God happy and make yourself happy - get to know your Maker.  Read all about Him in His Bible.  You’ll be glad that you did.
