Honeysuckle

About twenty years ago, I worked for a man on Lookout Mt. who had a beautiful home.  He had an old-school veranda with a beautifully shaded yard all around.  His only gardening problem was honeysuckle.  Now I have a problem with poison ivy and English privet, but not with honeysuckle.  But Mr. C. disliked honeysuckle.  It took over his hedgerow and crept into his boxwoods making itself a nuisance.  So, Mr. C. declared war on honeysuckle on his one-acre realm.  He would snip off a branch of honeysuckle and dip the bare end into full-strength Roundup.  The plant would suck down the Roundup to the roots and die.  In two days, Mr. C. would snip and dip any fresh twigs of honeysuckle that remained.  It took time, diligence, and patience, but Mr. C. eradicated honeysuckle from around his house.  Hey, that’s true with any endeavor in life.  Anything is possible with time, diligence, and patience.  Solomon said in Proverbs 27:23, “Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.”  If sheep or fields or orchards or office staff are left unattended for very long, they deteriorate.  Without diligence, honeysuckle just springs up.  Be diligent to deal with your brand of honeysuckle.  Don’t put off distasteful conversations or difficult decisions.  Be diligent, investigate, make decisions, don’t procrastinate, and your life will be much easier and pleasant.
