Commitment

Kathy and I have been married over fifty years!  Before we were married, I thought that she was the perfect girl.  And before we were married, she thought that I was the perfect boy.  But when we were married, it didn’t take either of us very long to realize that both of us were wrong.  We had married flawed spouses.  But by then it was too late.  We just had to love each other and do the best that we could … for fifty years.  You see, marriage is not finding the perfect mate, it’s working through problems caused by two imperfect people.  Marriage is like a tea bag.  It is all nice and neat with its little white paper, square corners, and little string hanging out.  But what’s on the inside?  You just don’t know until you put it into hot water, and then what’s on the inside comes out.  The tea bag is left all stained and wrinkled up, but the sweet tea is made.  Hey, a good marriage can stand the test of time … even in the hot water times!  David said in Psalm 27:14, “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”  As my heart is strengthened in the Lord, my spouse’s heart is strengthened in the Lord.  As we draw closer to the dear Lord, we draw closer to one another.  It takes time, work, and commitment.  But above all, it takes the goodness of a good, good God.  Trust in the Lord and He will see you through.
