Hypocrite

Brother Jamie ref’s high school games.  He said that coaches actually teach their players how to cheat!  Can you believe it?!  But when the other team is guilty of an infraction, guess who hollers the loudest?  You guessed it, the coach whose players have been cheating themselves.  That’s called a hypocrite.  I have a dear friend who played basketball who had several ways of “getting an edge” over the player lined up beside him to rebound a foul shot.  As the player shot the free-throw, just when the ball went up, my friend would pivot on his heel and put his toes over the foot of player who was standing next to him.  Try rebounding with someone standing on your foot!  Or, at the moment that the shot went up, he would tug at the shorts of the player standing next to him.  Sneaky, huh?  Hey, none of us want to be taken advantage of.  But all too often we cheat just a little to gain an advantage over someone else.  “It’s OK for me, but not for thee!”  Solomon said in Proverbs 11:9, “An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.”  Hypocrites say one thing but do another.  Today, try to be a person of your word.  Don’t be a hypocrite; be honest.  And then do it again tomorrow, and then the next day and then …
