Room for One More

In the spring of 1975, my wife was expecting our second child.  I came home one afternoon to find her crying - not unusual considering her roller-coaster hormones growing a baby.  She said, “I don’t think that I can love another child.”  We had a lovely daughter and loved her dearly.  But how about another?!  How could we find room to love another?!  But when our new baby boy was born, the love was right there.  Our love was not divided between the two; our love grew to include two.  And then three, and then four, and then sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, and then grandchildren.  As our family grew, our love grew.  Hey, there’s room for everyone in the family of God too!  That’s because there is room at the cross of Jesus Christ!  John said in John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”  Consider the words of Ira Stanphill’s old Gospel song:

Though millions have found Him a Friend

And have turned from the sins they have sinned,

The Savior still waits to open the gates

And welcome a sinner before it’s too late.

There’s room at the cross for you, There’s room at the cross for you’

Though millions have come, There’s still room for one,
