II Samuel 9:1

II Samuel 9:1 And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake? After David became king of Judah, he missed his dear friend Jonathan. He wished Jonathan could be there to share in his happiness. But Jonathan and his two brothers and his father, King Saul, had died in battle. So David began to search for any relative left of them so that he could show kindness to someone of Jonathan and Saul’s household. And the search Mephibosheth turned up. Back in those brutal days, when a new king came to power, he killed every remaining relative of the old king, so that no one could challenge his right to the throne. So little Mephibosheth had been whisked away by a caretaker who dropped him in her hurry to flee. From the accident, Mephibosheth became lame on both of his feet. But King David didn’t mean any harm; he wanted to be kind to Mephibosheth. He adopted Mephibosheth as his own son and gave him a place at the king’s own table. What a great picture of kindness, and what a great picture of how good God has been to us. Just like Mephibosheth had no right to be at King David’s table, we have no right at God’s table. David loved Mephibosheth for Jonathan’s sake; and God loves us for Jesus’ sake! Mephibosheth was blessed and we are blessed! Thank you, God, for being so good to us!
