A Robe or a Blanket

I worked on a deck for a relative Saturday, and I came home tired and dirty.  I took a long shower and life looked much better.  My wife’s sister and brother-in-law were coming over for supper, but I was pleasantly surprised that I was wrong on the time.  They were coming over an hour later than I had planned.  I was clean, but still tired.  So, I laid down for a nap.  The air was on and my feet were cold, so I grabbed the nearest thing that I could reach: my wife’s robe that was at the foot of the bed.  But I just couldn’t seem to get both feet covered.  First, I had one foot covered with the robe, but then the other foot was cold.  Then I worked the robe around over the cold foot, but I had just uncovered the other foot.  But I was too cold and sleepy to get up and get a blanket.  Hey sometimes we try to make a robe work as a blanket, but it just doesn’t work.  Hey sometimes we try to do things in our spiritual life that are short-cuts too.  We get up late in the morning and don’t have time to spend with God.  We don’t have time to read God’s Word and get ready for Satan’s attacks during the day.  So, later in the day, because we aren’t prepared, we do things in the flesh and not as God would have us to do.  One thing goes wrong and then another thing goes wrong.  The day is a total disaster.  The trouble is not in the day, but in the lack of preparations in the morning.  Solomon said in Proverbs 8:17, “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”  Take the time to prepare for the day.  Get up early to meet with God.  Don’t shuffle around trying to make a robe into a blanket.  Short-cuts never work.  Do the time.  Prepare for the day, and you’ll be glad that you did.
