Broken Scales

In 1998 I traveled to Romania with Dr. Kent Hovind for two weeks of creation seminars.  Brother Kent spoke in six different cities, and we had a tight schedule.  We flew Tarom Air (Romanian) from Timișoara to Bucharest to Chișinău and to Suceava on four different flights.  Brother Kent had three large suitcases and a heavy power inverter, so we had to pay for extra baggage each flight … except for one.  When we left Timișoara to fly to Bucharest, they just loaded our suitcases and ushered us onto the plane.  Great, I thought.  At the gate, I asked why there was no charge for the extra bags, and the desk attendant said that the scales were broken.  She said that we were lucky.  But as we boarded the plane, I realized that the pilot had no idea how much weight he was carrying!  We weren’t lucky; we were reckless!  The other passengers were happy that the flight left early without the bothersome detail of weighing each bag.  But I wasn’t happy.  Not at all.  That’s because I knew the truth.  Hey, do you know the truth about eternity?  Do you know that upon death, there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun?  Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”  Hey, you know the truth.  How about sharing it with someone today?  You’ll be glad that you did, and so will they, for a long, long time.
