Finish Strong

I heard a message last evening at church about “Pressing on towards the Mark”.  We need to finish strong in the race of life.  But there are several problems as we reach towards the finish line in life.  First, we don’t know where the finish line is.  None of us know when we will pass on from this life into the next.  We don’t know where our finish line is.  Then, because we don’t know where the finish line is, we can’t know which way to “press on”.  I have a friend who was on the rowing team for UTC.  You know those narrow boats that have a row of men who pull on the oars with all the strength that they have.  There is a coxswain in the back of the boat with a megaphone calling out directions.  And he is the only one who can see the finish line.  Each of the oarsmen is pulling with everything that they have, but their backs are towards the finish line.  Paul wanted to be approved of Jesus Christ.  He said in Philippians 3:13&14, “… this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”  Paul pressed towards the finish line.  Hey, listen to the Lord Jesus Christ, your trustworthy coxswain in life.  He will direct you as you row towards your finish line.  Jesus will not disappoint you or lead you in the wrong way.  Trust His directions, and you will “finish strong”!
