Balloons

Our children used to like balloons at parties … when they were young.  But they were a little disappointed when the balloons weren’t filled with helium.  We had a dear friend at church who worked at a welding gas company, and when a tank of helium was returned that wasn’t empty, he would let us use it.  The air-filled balloons are fun to play with, but you must keep hitting them to keep them aloft.  The helium ones, on the other hand, float all on their own.  In fact, if they weren’t tied up, they would float away!  Hey, that’s how some Christians are.  The must keep going to church where the pastor beats them up in the sermon to keep them pumped up.  He hits them on Sunday, they shape right up and say, “Good sermon pastor.  I needed that!”  But by the middle of the week, they need another session at church to slap them around.  But a few Christians, on the other hand, are “self-starters”.  They read their Bibles and pray daily to get daily marching orders from the Lord.  They are motivated to serve God and show up at church with a mind to work.  Paul said in Philippians 1:3, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.”  Hey, which kind are you?  Is the pastor glad to see you at church or does he dread seeing you knowing that you must be propped up each service?  Hey, be a blessing, not a project.
